Information for Adoption Applicants

Thank you for contacting Border Collie Rescue in your search for a suitable dog.
Please find enclosed your copy of our Home Finding questionnaire / Adoption Application for you to fill in and return to us.
Please do not send the completed application to our registered office address. Return it to our National Co-ordinators office address immediately above.

Please return your form within one month of receiving it in order to keep your application live.

Please note that the application must be in the name of one person and that should be the person who will adopt and be responsible for the dog. Applicants must be over 18 years of age.

Joint or corporate applications cannot be accepted.

Please remember to phone us on our main office number during office hours within 7 days of sending the form back to us in order to confirm we have received it, activate your application and receive your client's case reference number.

When we receive your completed form we will hold it for one month.
You will need to phone us within this time to activate your application and receive a unique clients reference.
If you have not phoned to activate your application within this period, we will assume you have found a dog elsewhere.

We will only start to look for a dog for you once the application is active.
Due to the large number of enquiries we get, we are unable to contact applicants to confirm receipt of the form, which is why we are asking you to contact us if you wish to proceed.

What happens next?

Once your application is activated it will be passed over to our Coordinators who will see if they can match a suitable dog for you from those referred to us for re-homing.
This process may take a little time as we can only select a dog from those we have on our register and we may not have a suitable choice ready for re-homing at the time your application comes in.

If this is the case we will keep your application active until a suitable dog comes up or until we hear from you that you have acquired a dog elsewhere and no longer need our services.
If, during this time, you find a dog elsewhere, please notify us so we can close your case.

Once a suitable dog is found we will initially contact you by phone to discuss the candidate.
If the choice seems right we will then arrange a home visit at a mutually convenient time.

On successful completion of the home visit we will arrange for you to meet the dog.
If you are happy with the dog you will be able to take the dog on a month's trial period upon completion of the appropriate paperwork.

During the trial period we ask you to keep in contact with us at least once a week, giving us updates on the progress of the dog.
Upon conclusion of the trial period, providing we are all happy with the match, you can adopt the dog by making a donation to our charity.

We do not ask for a donation until the dog is officially adopted.

If, at any time, the dog proves unsuitable we will take it back into our care and look for another dog for you.

If you have any further queries or require more information, please contact us on our main office number.

Yours Sincerely,

Nicki Oliver

National Co-ordinator.
